Letter from the Founders
Our journey with Olivia taught us so many things and left us changed forever. After she passed away, we were haunted by memories of other families and their challenges. We knew that for many of them they were faced with a life time of medical appointments, traveling, and the uncertainty of what the future held for them.
We were shocked at how many families in our own community were faced with this challenge, we were equally as shocked by the gaps in the systems that offered help.
With the strength and courage that Olivia gave to us, Mario and I made the commitment that we would do everything in our power to help as many of those families as we could, to help ease the burdens that they faced.
A month after Olivia passed away; plans were underway for the foundation. We vowed to help as many children/families as we could; we called those special children Olivia’s friends. Even thought they would never meet – they had a special bond, and so we named the foundation “Friends of Olivia” in honor of her strength and courage. Today it stands as beacon of love, hope and support for all children and their families who are faced with extraordinary challenges like our Olivia!
We believe that nothing is more important than love, that no child should have to face their challenges alone, and no parent should have to be limited in their decisions because of financial resources.
It is our hope that the Friends of Olivia Foundation will continue to grow, and will one day support all families in our community that need our help.
